To assist applicants with refining research proposals so that they align with the Faculty of IT's research strengths and with identifying prospective supervisors for candidature, links to important faculty contacts are provided below.
You must ensure that you have contacted a faculty of IT Scholarship Contact officer (see below) who will assist you in identifying potential supervisors, prospective research topics and the availability of resources to support your candidature.
Prospective candidates will be considered for scholarships if they hold a first class honours (H1) qualification or the equivalent.
Monash has well established procedures for assessing other qualifications, through its first class honours equivalence process (H1E). If an applicant has qualifications with research experiences equivalent to an Australian first class honours degree, the student’s qualifications may be assessed for equivalence. The following qualifications, for example, require such assessment:
- a bachelors degree requiring at least four years of full-time study, and which normally includes a research component in the fourth year, leading to an honours degree class I level, or
- a course leading to a level rated by the relevant department, faculty and committee as equivalent to an honours class I degree, or
- a masters degree that entails work, normally including a significant research component, at least equivalent to an honours degree (a ‘significant research component’ in a masters degree will vary from discipline to discipline). It is normally expected that a grade of class I has been obtained for the research thesis or project. Where ungraded, examiners' reports will be taken into account.
Candidates with the following qualifications are automatically classed as first class honours applicants:
- Australian/New Zealand bachelors degree with first class honours (H1)
- Australian/New Zealand research masters preliminary degree formally graded at H1 level
- Australian/New Zealand research masters degree formally graded at H1 level
Further information regarding equivalent qualifications is available at http://www.mrgs.monash.edu.au/scholarships/summary.html
