Travelling to the Monash University Prato Centre

The Monash University Prato Centre, housed in Palazzo Vaj, is in the centre of the old town of Prato, only two minutes away from the city's cathedral and walking distance from both train stations (Prato Porta Al Serraglio and Prato Centrale). Prato is 25 minutes from Florence by train.

On foot

Palazzo Vaj is located in the heart of the medieval centre, a 15 minute walk from the main Prato Centrale train station and a 5 minute walk from the smaller station Prato Porta Serraglio.

By car

Take the A11 Firenze-Pisa freeway for approximately 8km (5min) and exit at Prato-Est. After the tollgate keep to the left and head in the direction of Vaiano-Vernio for approximately 3km (4min) going through two underpasses. After the second underpass turn right into Via Carlo Marx and continue straight towards the centre of Prato passing through three sets of traffic lights. Enter the city walls at Via Frascati and continue straight until Piazza dell’Imperatore where there are a few pay car parks. There are larger pay car parks in Piazza Mercatale and in Via Arcivescovo Antonio Martini.

By train

Prato is a 25 minute train ride from Florence and approximately 50 minutes from Bologna. Train timetables are available online at the Trenitalia website.

By bus

Prato can also be reached from Florence by bus; CAP and Lazzi buses depart from outside the main Florence train station. If arriving at Prato Centrale railway station, you can take the LAM bus 'Direzione Nenni' to Piazza delle Carceri, bus stop 'Carceri 2', located 200 metres from the Monash Centre. Bus information are available on the CAP website

By air

Arriving from Florence

Florence airport (Peretola) is approximately 25 minutes by car or 40 minutes by bus from Prato. Taxis and regular bus services run between Prato and Florence Airport. A one-way taxi fare from Florence airport to the Monash Centre can cost between 40-50 euro. Alternatively, there is a bus service either by CAP or Lazzi bus-company, which departs every 15 minutes, located just outside the airport area: the stop is located on the main street. Tickets can be purchased either from a newsagent ( Tabacchi ) or on board the bus. To arrive at the Monash Centre you are advised to get off in Via del Ceppo Vecchio, in front of the Lazzeriniana Library (Biblioteca Lazzeriniana); then continue on foot following the directions of the map. 

Arriving from Pisa

Pisa Airport is approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes from Prato by train, or 70 minutes by Terravision bus from Firenze Santa Maria Novella Station, Florence).

Arriving from Bologna

The Bologna Airport is a 30 minute bus or taxi ride from Bologna train station.
