Major projects

Automatic Music Feature Extraction, Classification and Annotation
This project is funded from 2009 to 2011 through the ARC Discovery Project Scheme. It investigates automated retrieval of music from vast digital music collections that meets the current industry need and are based not just on titles, composers and/or performers, but on the actual properties of the music itself.

MCSN: Multi-class Collaborative Sensor Networks
The MCSN project aims to develop a generic sensor network framework for a collaborative environment to empower effective and timely data accumulation, processing and decision making and respond accordingly through proper coordination of actors.

Semantic Image Search Based on Image Content
This project investigates the interpretation of digital image semantically the same way as human does.

Intelligent Networks
The focus in the project is on the use and development of distributed intelligent system that responds to traffic conditions.

Video Coding Focusing on Moving Region and Occlusion
The project investigates the improvement of video quality by exploiting block-level moving regions with adaptive pattern templates and handling object-occlusion problems with dynamic background modelling.

The 'Copy and Paste' Function, Patterns of Learner Activity and Enhancing Cognitive Tools
A project conducting analysis in the learner activity and cognitive tools area. It also aims to develop an online application in Flash to embed alternate ‘Copy and Paste’ interaction strategies into a word processor and to monitor learner processing levels.

Image Indexing Technique for Flexible Sub-Image Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) Querying
This project challenges current CBIR practices and investigates the advantage of harnessing the most relevant information identified by the user.

Audio Annotation Interaction Strategies
This project explores audio annotation strategies for processing audio and video lecture content.

Recognising an event of interest and predicting its behaviour considering physical and social context
The aim of this project is to detect and separate an event of interest from a video sequence. This project will also investigate to predict the behaviour of a recognised event considering its physical and social context.

Multi-touch Displays and Interactivity for Educational Research
A planned project for the construction of Multi-touch Displays for educational research.

Active Versus Passive Training in a Virtual Environment
The project analyzes active versus passive training in a virtual environment and the results are expected to have impact on telesurgery, remote machinery operation and training or guiding learners using virtual reality.
