FIT Research groups and labs

Research groups and labs affiliated with the Faculty's primary Research centres:

Centre for Community Networking Research (CCNR)  Located in the Caulfield School of Information Technology, CCNR aims to understand how communities and community organisations are using new technologies.
Centre for Electronic Media Art (CEMA) An interdisciplinary research and production center, established to explore theoretical and technical possibilities for electronic media art.
Computer Education Research Group (CERG) Interested in contemporary educational issues in computing and seeks to provide a vision for the pedagogical future of computing.
Cognitive and Connectionist Systems Lab (CCSL) Focused on expanding the boundaries of connectionist systems in both architecture and process to accommodate biological neuronal behaviour for the development of cognitive systems and machine consciousness.
Monash Decision Support Systems Laboratory (DSS Lab) Addresses the development and use of information systems to support decision-making. Most decision support research has been focused on strategic management decision-making.
International Development Informatics Association (IDIA) Serves as a forum for international cooperation between organisations focusing on research in the use of ICT for developing economies and societies, where various constraints impact on the use of ICT compared to highly developed regions (view in Mozilla Firefox for best results).
Intelligent Systems (IS) Based at Monash University's Campus at Sunway, Malaysia, this group is dedicated to innovating computer systems which provide intelligent or smart services to humans or other computer systems.
Information Systems Development Group (ISDr) Covers a broad range of issues relating to all aspects of the development of information systems and innovation in teaching methods for teaching ISD.
Information and Telecommunications Needs Research (ITNR) Has researched people's relationships with each other and their new information and communications environments.  We have particular skills in analysing user needs and understanding how systems and services can be developed or adapted to meet those needs.
Knowledge Management Research Program (KM) One of the formal research groups operating since 1995, we are conducting studies towards a comprehensive approach to knowledge management for intelligent decision support.

Monash e-Science and Grid Engineering Laboratory (MessageLab)

Performs research and development on software tools and techniques for programming e-Science applications
Mobile Health Research Group (MHRG) An interdisciplinary research group whose aim is to explore, understand and support mobile clinical practice with emerging information and communications technology in healthcare environments.
Records Continuum Research Group Looks at methods of analysis which enable records to be controlled at different points in time throughout their lifespan.
User Modeling and Natural Language (UM&NL)  Considers issues in the inter-related areas of user Modeling and Natural Language, focusing on the application of Machine Learning and Statistical techniques.
