Evaluation of Building the Internet Workforce (Web Workforce) Project

• Chief Investigators: Dr Kirsty Williamson and Dr Graeme Johanson

• Funder: Department of Education, Science and Technology (DEST) through the Web Workforce ($24,038)

The Web Workforce project, funded by DEST through the Science Lectureship project, began in 2000. It involves a collaborative partnership of Monash University, University of Queensland and University of Sydney, to design and develop a repository of learning objects for teaching in the field of information technology. ITNR was asked to evaluate the project.

Research Questions

1. What is the value/usefulness of the WEBWORKFORCE learning repository to academic teaching?

2. In what ways will university culture affect the use of the repository?

3. Are the design and usability of the repository satisfactory?

4. How appropriate is the content of the repository?

5. What is the long-term viability of the Webworkforce project?

Method

A mixture of individual and focus group interviews was undertaken with nine academic staff in each of three universities (27 staff in total). The staff interviewed were either users and/or contributors to the repository.

Current Status

The evaluation report was submitted to DEST in July 2003.
