2011-2012 Summer Semester

summer computing

The Faculty of Information Technology Summer Semesters A and B units will be available for enrolment on the 1st September 2011.

Summer Semesters A and B cover teaching in the period from November 2011 to February 2012.  The University Fee Policy has been changed effective 2011 for students undertaking units in Summer Semester.   Students enrolled in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) can undertake summer semester units on a CSP basis and pay the relevant Student Contribution Amount (SCA) per unit except where the Faculty determines that a unit will be offered on a full fee-paying basis.

Please refer to the 'Units Offered/Timetables' page for specific Fees and dates for IT units. Please also refer to the 'Important Dates' page for further information. It is a student's responsibility to be familiar with the relevant dates for their enrolment.

How to Enrol

Visit your Home School Office to obtain and submit your Enrolment Amendment Form. All Summer enrolments are completed manually and cannot be done via WES.

Choosing a Unit offered by the Faculty of IT

It is a student responsibility to check for prerequisites and prohibitions that apply to units. Although two units may be prohibited with one another, this does not imply that they are equivalent units. IT students are reminded that, although approval signatures may not be required on the Enrolment Amendment Form, it is a student responsibility to obtain course advice to ensure summer units will be credited towards their degree.

Closing dates for enrolling into Summer Semester Units

Students are encouraged to enrol in summer units as soon as they are available as this will help to prevent units being cancelled due to low enrolment numbers.

There is no formal closing date and enrolments will be accepted until the start of teaching. Lecturer approval will be required for enrolment in a unit where classes have already commenced.

Discontinuing Units

Please refer to the 'Units Offered/Timetables' page for specific discontinuation dates for IT units. Please also refer to the 'Important Dates' page for further information on discontinuing from units. It is a student's responsibility to discontinue by the applicable date.

Study load over Summer Semester

The Faculty of IT recommends students study no more than two units in any one summer calendar period. Some summer units are taught in ‘intensive teaching mode’ and are very demanding scholastically.
