FIT5133 Enterprise architecture and management - Semester 1, 2015

Covers the core skills for enterprise architects, addressing the structuring and delivery of IT services in organisations. Addresses topics including SaaS, Cloud computing, enterprise 2.0 and other collaborative technologies, services science management and engineering and services strategy.

Workload Requirements

Minimum total expected workload equals 12 hours per week comprising:

(a.) Contact hours for on-campus students:

• 2 hours of lectures
• One 2-hour tutorial

(b.) Study schedule for off-campus students:

• Off-campus students generally do not attend lecture and tutorial sessions, however should plan to spend equivalent time working through the relevant resources and participating in discussion groups each week.

(c.) Additional requirements (all students):

• A minimum of 8 hours independent study per week for completing lab and project work, private study and revision.

  Title:

  Assignment 1 - Investigating the EA definitions, frameworks and approaches

  Description:

  Students will conduct a survey of literature on various types of frameworks and approaches that could be used to align enterprise's IT architecture with Business architecture in order to achieve enterprise business goals.

  Weighting:

  20%

  Criteria for assessment:

  Criteria to be used include:

  • Justification on selection of the type of published articles
  • Discussion of the chosen enterprise architecture frameworks
  • Quality of the written report

  Week 6, Monday 13 April 2015 by 4:00 pm

• Assessment task 2

  Title:

  Assignment 2 - Investigating Implementation Issues of Enterprise Architecture and Management

  Description:

  In this assignment, regardless of individual or group work, all students will be asked to investigate on the people implementation aspect, people and process implementation, and  technology implementation aspects of EA for specific scenario for them to design an enterprise architecture, and their associated implementation issues and management governance structure.
  
  All students will be given a choice of doing either individual or group-based assignments. Once a choice is made to the tutor, no change of choice is allowed without prior written approval from the lecturer. For group work, unless otherwise prior approval is given by the lecturer, only two members per group is permitted. Ideally two members should be in the same tutorial group to facilitate interaction in group activities. The final mark per student (no gurantee every student will be awarded same mark) in a group will be awarded in accordance with the effort and quality of his/her contribution to the group work. The tutor will monitor and assess each group member's activity related to group work. If there is a complaint about no or little contribution by a member in the group, the complainant will have to notify the tutor who will carry out an investigation and make a recommendation to the lecturer. The lecturer's judgement applies. Any appeal from student must be lodged in writing to the CE within two weeks from date of judgement made known to the student. The CE's decision is final.
